How to use MAME with MAME Classic
-------------------------------------

Read the MAME documentation at docs.mamedev.org.

Download the MAME Classic Full Package from my site, mameclassic.mameworld.info. Extract the contents to a folder of your choice... preferably not in a protected folder. Create a shortcut to MClassic.exe if you like. If you want your settings and output files to be stored in your Windows AppData folder, rename or delete the portable.txt file. Otherwise, these files will be stored in your MAME Classic folder.

Download the official MAME from www.mamedev.org. Go to DOWNLOADS/Latest Releases, and scroll down till you find the latest Official Binaries. You want the a Windows command-line binary. Create a folder called MAME on your hard drive. If you are using Windows Vista or higher, make sure that you do not create this folder in a protected folder. Extract the contents of the MAME download into this folder. Put ROMs (not included) into the ROMS folder. Samples and artwork are also available but are not needed to actually play the games. Do not put the MAME folder (or it's sub-folders) in the MAME Classic folder.

The first time you run MAME Classic it will ask you to set some preferences and folder locations. BROWSE to your MAME folder so that it finds your mame executable. The rest of the file locations will fill in automatically. Hit OK and you should be on your way. You can fine tune the way the games appear on your system by setting options in MAME Settings.

Minimal Upgrade Installation
----------------------------

Unzip the downloaded file. Copy MClassic.exe and classic.txt into your MAME Classic directory overwriting any existing files. Copy catver.ini and other.txt into your MAME Classic\support directory overwriting any existing files.
